In 2006 I attended my first ever software testing conference. I was amazed by the interesting and dynamic speakers in attendance. I was even more surprised to learn that the speakers were ordinary software testers who were a lot like me. They had interesting stories to tell, a passion for software testing and the bravery to stand in front of a room to tell a story. During one session I turned to my co-worker beside me and said, “I can do this too!”. At first the word from my mouth were a shock to me! Could I really stand in front of a room and tell my stories? Would be people interested? And if I could and they were, where do I even start to get into a conference like this?

The next year I spent learning on my own how to get into software testing conferences. What do reviewers look for in abstracts? What topics are interesting to attendees? And most importantly, how to hold the attention of the audience and powerfully deliver my story.

Since that time I have had the honor of being an invited speaker at a number of testing conferences all around the world. I have learned so much as an attendee and a speaker. I have made some amazing connections to other software testers and conference speakers and am very proud to call some of the other mentors displayed on this page my friends.

As life gets busy I’m not able to attend as many conferences as I once was; however, helping through mentoring others makes me feel like I’m still a part of the many great conferences offered all around the world. Software testing and teaching are two of my passions that I don’t get to enjoy nearly as much as I would like. I’m excited to be a Speak Easy mentor and help others tell their story in the world. Let’s work on your journey to speaking at software testing conferences together.

We all have amazing stories to tell, let’s hear yours!
